MYKONOS, GREECE
July 30, 2018
There is so much world out there that needs to be seen, and I intend on seeing it one country at a time. If you've been here before you may have seen my first instalment in my travel series, if not make sure to read up on it here.
My next destination was Mykonos, one of the Greek islands, and one of the prettiest, in my opinion (literally Instagram heaven). Like it's almost identical twin Santorini, Mykonos boasts white architecture, hilly roads and beautiful sunsets (although I've heard that Santorini's sunsets are an actual attraction) for much less.
We visited Mykonos in April, it was a birthday present from my lovely boyfriend. At first, we were really focused on Santorini, I mean according to my Instagram feed and Rick Ross, it was the place to go. But a combination of booking last minute and ridiculously pricey plane tickets pushed us to have a look and its sister islands and Mykonos happened to be the Santorini we were looking for
I am always cautious about going away on my birthday, especially to Europe because most places are still quite cool and I love warm weather whilst I'm on holiday. Mykonos in April is quite warm but not beach warm, it can also be windy, so I suggest a dress and a Denim Jacket. the weather doesn't really change drastically from day to night, so there's no need to worry about getting cold in the evening. Because of the season, there wasn't that much available in terms of activities and excursions. But there are so many areas to explore and so much good food to eat, you won't be bored.
I would suggest that you explore as much as you can. Once you get into the town, there aren't any streets just alleyways, so just keep walking. Go to Little Venice, you will find an array of markets, restaurants and really cool clothing stores. Once you've seen all there to see on ground level of Little Venice try and find a way to get on a roof, try and travel across as many roofs as possible but make sure to stop for a few seconds and take in the most breathtaking view, because once you get on a good enough roof you can literally see the whole of Mykonos.
Mykonos has a lot to give and there so many areas you can stay; although all areas are beautiful, some are more scenic than the others. We stayed near Mykonos Town in a beautiful family run hotel called With-inn. The interior of our room was a combination of rich creams and a dash of warm camel and orange tones. What really made the room was the barely painted wood and that beautiful mirror; I spent a disturbing amount of time thinking about how I would take it with me to London without looking suspicious. I would suggest living in or close to the Town if you haven't been there before because it's much busier and there's much more to do. If you go again maybe explore other the parts. Basically the further out you go the bigger the villas and the nicer the beaches.
I really enjoy writing these travel posts, I love sharing what I've seen. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed it too.
If you want to know what I wore, be sure to look out for my next post!
Ben xoxo
